Uric acid is a chemical that is formed in our bodies resulting from the breakdown of cells in our body or from food rich in purines.

It is a test that is performed to check the levels of uric acid in blood.

The test for uric acid is done for a variety of reasons, most notably:
To diagnose gout
To monitor the levels of uric acid in patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy
To check the effectiveness of the treatment given to those with lower uric acid levels
To assess the risks involved due to recurring kidney stones
How is Uric Acid Test Done?
Uric acid is done on a blood sample. To get the blood sample, the same is withdrawn from the body using a syringe from a vein on our arm.
How to Understand the Results of a Uric Acid Test?
High levels of uric acid are usually witnessed in patients with gout, recurrent kidney stones, and in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
On the other hand, low levels of uric acid are seen in patients with kidney or liver disease.
What is Gout?
Gout is a form of arthritis wherein joints of feet, especially the significant toe experiences swelling and pain. Some of the factors which increase the risk of gout include
1) Family history of Gout
2) Overeating purinerich food
3) Regular consumption of alcohol
4) Intake of medicines such as diuretics, cyclosporine
5) History of high blood pressure, kidney disease, thyroid disease, and diabetes.

Uric acid is produced when the body breaks down a chemical called purine. Purine occurs naturally in your body, but it’s also found in certain foods. Uric acid is eliminated from the body in urine.
A gout diet may help decrease uric acid levels in the blood. A gout diet is not a cure. But it may lower the risk of recurring gout attacks and slow the progression of joint damage.
People with gout who follow a gout diet generally still need medication to manage pain and to lower levels of uric
★Foods You Should Eat
Although a goutfriendly diet eliminates many foods, there are still plenty of lowpurine foods you can enjoy.
Foods are considered lowpurine ,
Here are some lowpurine foods that are generally safe for people with gout
All fruits are generally fine for gout. Cherries may even help prevent attacks by lowering uric acid levels and reducing inflammation
All vegetables are fine, including potatoes, peas, mushrooms, eggplants and dark green leafy vegetables.
All legumes are fine, including lentils, beans, soybeans and tofu.
•Nuts: All nuts and seeds.
These include oats, brown rice and barley.
All dairy is safe, but lowfat dairy appears to be especially beneficial
Coffee, tea and green tea.
•Herbs and spices:
All herbs and spices.
•Plantbased oils: Including canola, coconut, olive and flax oils.
★What Foods Should You Avoid
If susceptible to sudden gout attacks, avoid the main culprits highpurine foods.
These are foods that contain more than 200 mg of purines per 100 grams
•You should also avoid highfructose foods, These may trigger a gout attack.
Here are a few major highpurine foods, moderatelyhighpurine foods and highfructose foods to avoid
•All organ meats:
These include liver, kidneys, sweetbreads and brain
Herring, trout, mackerel, tuna, sardines, anchovies, and more
Scallops, crab, shrimp and roe
Especially fruit juices and sugary sodas
Honey, agave nectar and highfructose corn syrup
The general principles of a gout diet follow typical healthydiet recommendations:
3•Water. Stay wellhydrated by drinking water.
4• Fats. Cut back on saturated fats from red meat, fatty poultry and highfat dairy products.
5• Proteins. Focus on lean meat and poultry, lowfat dairy and lentils as sources of protein.
Recommendations for specific foods or supplements include:
Organ and glandular meats. Avoid meats such as liver, kidney and sweetbread
Red meat. Limit serving sizes of beef, lamb and pork.
Seafood. Some types of seafood — such as anchovies, shellfish, sardines and tuna — are higher in purines than are other types.
Highpurine vegetables. Studies have shown that vegetables high in purines, such as asparagus and spinach, don’t increase the risk of gout or recurring gout attacks.
Alcohol. Beer and distilled liquors are associated with an increased risk of gout and recurring attacks.
Sugary foods and beverages. Limit or avoid sugarsweetened foods such as sweetened cereals, bakery goods and candies. Limit consumption of naturally sweet fruit juices.
Vitamin C. Vitamin C may help lower uric acid levels. Talk to your doctor about whether a 500milligram vitamin C supplement fits into your diet and medication plan.
Coffee. research suggests that drinking coffee in moderation, especially regular caffeinated coffee, may be associated with a reduced risk of gout.
Cherries. There is some evidence that eating cherries is associated with a reduced risk of gout attacks.
